At first the tournament «Lokomotiv — School league» was organized in 2006 on the territory of Rostov region thanks to assistance of a general sponsor JSC «Russian Railways». The company reimbursed all the participants’ expenses on road, meals and dwelling. Besides all the children were provided with sports uniform, the winners got cups, medals and valuable gifts. The competitions involved 56 cities and regions of Don territory. 24 thousand of schoolboys from 600 schools took a part in the tournament since the October 2006 until the April 2007.

The send tournament «Lokomotiv — School league» was held since the November 2007 until the May 2008 on the territory of 10 constituent territories in Southern Federal district. This season the tournament involved all the activity’s zone of the Northern Caucasian railway, namely Rostov region, the Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachai-Cherkess, North Ossetia — Alania, Chechen Republic, Ingushetiya, Adygei, Dagestan.

At the end of 2008 the company «Russian Railways» made a decision that children projects should «live» and develop in further regardless all the difficulties concerning the financial crisis. Initially it was intended to limit the geography tournament within the Northern Caucasian railway zone but a great number of letters and calls had been addressed to the club from Astrakhan region and Abkhazia that it was decided to extend the League.

By reason of this addition (12 regions in all) more than 117 thousand of children came into basketball courts. The Final games of the tournament took place 8-12 of the April 2009. At first it was organized a live broadcast of super final match of «School league» on the federal channel «Sport».

The number of participants of «School league» considerably increased in the season 2009-2010. Since now the tournament involves 14 regions. This year Kalmykia and Volgograd have been reckoned with participants, that means more than 130 thousand of teenagers will be involved in a great sports festival.

The tournament winners of «Lokomotiv — School league» will get super prizes. In 2008 Cherkessk team had three day Cyprus tour where watched the guest match of «Lokomotiv» in the network of the EuroChallenge Cup. The team from Slavyansk-na-Kubani left for Poland in the fall 2009 for European Basketball Championship. The juniors visited a practice process of Russian National Team and three matches of the group tour.
