During his youth, he played for Dynamo Maykop as a center/power forward. After graduating from Kuban State Sports University and serving in the army, he joined Lokomotiv Kuban’s youth team as a massage therapist. Two years later, he was transferred to the main team staff as a rehabilitation specialist. Before the start of the 2025/26 season, Turtygin took on the position of physiologist coach.
