Interview

Karvel Anderson: “I’ll do whatever to win, even cheerleading”

The Loko guard, who holds the VTB United league record on most three-pointers per season, told us about what happened at the first training session after the summer break and shared his expectations on the upcoming championship.
Loko changed a lot this summer. What do you think about that?
I think the season will be interesting. Changes are a part of being a professional athlete. Every season many things change. We will miss the players and coaches from last year, but at the same time we are focused on the next season and players we have now. We're gonna have the most success we can with the guys here.
Today was the first training session with the new head coach. How did it go?
Today was more kind of an introduction practice just to show us some new things, explain the situation. I think in the next days we’ll do more details, spend more time together and understand how we will play. From what the coach said before the training, I have a lot of great feelings. I think we all share big ambitions that our coach has. And he will do everything for us to succeed.
For the next couple weeks you will have two training sessions a day. Are you okay with that?
When you are a professional, two sessions a day is normal. For me, basketball is not hard work. Real life is hard work. And to be in the gym with the good guys throwing ball is fun.
What can you say about the newcomers to Loko?
I think all these guys will help us a lot. The guys from the youth program have a lot of potential. So, spending a lot of time together, developing their strengths and building relationships will help a lot.
Do you think of setting new league records?
No. I’m really focused on doing everything I can to help our team win. In offense, defense, even if I will be needed as a cheerleader – I’ll do whatever I’m asked to to win. If this brings records then, of course, I will be happy. But individual goals are never what I think about.
