The opponents will meet for the third time this season. The victory in Nizhny Novgorod on October 24 was the 9th for Lokomotiv at the start of the season. That evening, the hosts tried to chase several times, but Andrey Vedishchev’s charges successfully stopped these attempts. The final result was 95:72, with 16 points by Antonius Cleveland and 14 each by Patrick Miller and Vsevolod Ishchenko. For opponent, Nemanja Đurišić scored 16, Aubrey Dawkins – 14, 10 were added by JaKeenan Gant (the club parted ways with him at the end of autumn).
Shortly before the New Year, on December 26, the teams played in Krasnodar. The game followed a similar scenario: Lokomotiv at some point took a big lead, the Nizhny Novgorod team tried to recoup, but this only led to an abundance of bright moments at both ends – 101:86 in our favor. This time, Cleveland scored 19 points, while the opponent’s Alexander Chadov made 24+8.
Lokomotiv Kuban is approaching today’s game with a 4-game winning streak, and in those games our team has scored an average of 104.0 points. However, there are some problems with the Krasnodar club’s roster: BJ Johnson and Andrey Martyuk have been out for quite a while, Ishchenko will recover soon, but not today, and Kirill Temirov missed the previous game against Yenisei.
Yesterday, two more players from the main roster played a full game for the reserve team – Mikhail Vedishchev and Anton Kvitkovskikh, who scored 14 and 33 points, respectively, and helped ORSS-Lokomotiv beat the current Superliga champion Dynamo Vladivostok (78:77). At the same time, ORSS-Loko’s roster did not include Danil Sheyanov – we will probably see the captain of our reserve team on the court today.
The Pari NN lineup will also change notably compared to their last visit to Krasnodar. It is not yet clear whether Dmitry Khvostov, the Nizhny Novgorod team’s main playmaker (4.0 assists per game on average), will be able to set his foot on the court.
In early January, our opponent terminated contract with Aubrey Dawkins. The club took another small forward on loan to replace him – Igor Volkhin from Zenit. The player has already played 20 minutes for his new team against Astana – and helped them break a series of 6 defeats in a row (66:62).
The undisputed leader of Pari NN is shooting guard Zach Nutall. He is the second scorer in the championship at the moment (17.6 points). The VTB United League gave him a wild card to participate in the 2025 All-Star Game and invited him to take part in the slam dunk contest.
Montenegrin power forward Nemanja Đurišić is also always ready to lead the team, averaging 10.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.0 steals this season. Last week, the league named him to the Team of the Week.
Power forward Alexander Chadov is making significant progress. He is currently third on his team in scoring (8.6) and, one might say, first in rebounds (4.9; Volkhin has 5.0 – but only one appearance for Pari NN).
The main playmaker of the Nizhny Novgorod team is Alexander Khomenko. In addition to 3.4 assists, he has 1.2 steals this season.
