The newly-minted Defensive Player of the Year in the VTB United League shared his emotions after Lokomotiv Kuban's victory over Zenit (96:88 OT) in the 4th game of the semi-final series.
- Our first question is about the game that allowed Loko to tie the score in the semifinals...
- This was real playoff basketball! The kind of basketball we are all here for! We managed to get two huge wins in a row. I think that says a lot about our team and what we are capable of. I am really proud of us after this win.
- What do you think of the next game?
- I think it will be even more physical and tough. I expect the same character from our team that we showed in the two home games.
- What was your reaction when you found out that you were named the Defensive Player of the Year?
- I am very glad to receive this award. By the way, this is my third DPOY title in four years. I always try to focus on defense and to help my team win. But today I will be a little selfish [smiles]. I am proud that I won this for myself, my family, my wife and children. I am grateful for this award, but my main goal is to win the championship!
- You were nominated for three individual VTB United League awards at once: DPOY, Best Reserve, Best Rookie…
- DPOY is the one I wanted the most. Although I was also thinking about Rookie of the Year [smiles].
