On May 19 at 8 PM Lokomotiv Kuban will play a key home game of the semi-final series against Zenit. So far we are behind in the series up to 4 wins – 2-3.

Our backs are now against the wall, the series score is 2-3. We are playing at home and must impose a fight on our opponent on every inch of the court, be cool and unyielding. We know that we need to stop the attack of Zenit, which has many players who are very good in attacking. Our main task is to fulfill the game plan and do it with full dedication and concentration. We need to show a defense of a different level than in the previous game, and return to St. Petersburg for the 7th match. I hope we have drawn the right conclusions and will show character and the will to win.

Since the VTB United League first started holding best-of-7 series in the 2022/23 season, there have been five cases of a 2-3 score. And in four of them, after Game 6, it was 3-3 (only CSKA was able to push Zenit to 4-2 last season).

After Game 5, which we lost 80-93, there were two changes in the team statistics of the current playoffs: Zenit overtook us in average points scored per game (they now have 89.1, they are second; we have 88.7, we are third) and in points conceded (they have 80.3 and are third; we have 81.3 and are fourth).

Dwayne Bacon regained first place in the playoffs in points scored (22.3); Alexey Shved moved from 4th place in assists to 5th (4.5). Isaiah Whaley and Vince Hunter swapped places in the ranking of the best blockers: the Zenit player now has an average of 1.4 and is 2nd, while our forward has 1.2 and is 3rd.

We need to show the right reaction to the defeat in St. Petersburg, show character and aggression in defense throughout the game. Home court always gives us strength, so we must defend it at all costs. We will fight to the end and are focused only on victory.
