Welcome, Ilya!

Center Ilya Popov joins the Lokomotiv Kuban PBC roster. The agreement runs until the end of the 2026/2027 season.

Popov’s career began in the St. Petersburg Spartak system. From there, he moved to Nizhny Novgorod and then went on loan to Spartak-Primorye, with whom he won bronze in the Russian Cup and silver in the Superliga. He played for Nizhny Novgorod and Yenisei for the next few years. He also spent half a season on loan at Lions de Geneva, where he won silver in the Swiss championship.

In the summer of 2021, he joined Runa PBC. As part of this team, he became a two-time silver medalist in the Superliga and bronze medalist in the Russian Cup, following where he was included in the Top-5 as the Best center.

He started the 2024/25 season in Samara, and in February he moved to Uralmash, whom he helped win the Russian Cup for the first time in history. Popov’s average performance last season was: 8.4 points + 3.7 rebounds + 1.0 assists + 0.6 steals + 0.1 blocks in 16 1/2 minutes.

Also, last season Popov took part in the VTB United League All-Star Game.
