Anton Kvitkovskikh: “Personal records mean nothing when the team loses”

The Lokomotiv Kuban forward set two records today: the most points scored in a VTB United League season-opener (27), as well as a personal career-high. Unfortunately, Uralmash still won (85:86).

My feelings are mixed: yes, I scored a lot, my teammates shared the ball well – it's nice to have such a support from your teammates and the coaches. But personal records mean nothing when the team loses. The last time I set a career-high, we also lost – to UNICS in Kazan. Today we didn't win either... It's sad that we couldn't please the fans with a win at the start of the season. We'll try to win the next few games; we can still turn things around. Against Uralmash, we started off well – the coach confirmed this during the break, and we felt it ourselves. We probably spent too much energy, the opponent gradually got into the game, and then things started to swing. In the end, it was the details that decided everything: we failed to take some rebounds, didn't make some passes when it was needed, we let them score points in a fast transition. This will be a lesson for us – we need to be more stable and not allow our opponents to drag us into such endings.
