Jeremiah Martin: “Making stops is also fun for me”

The Lokomotiv Kuban guard was the top scorer along with Patrick Miller against Uralmash (77:64, both got 14 points), and also surpassed the 1,500-point mark in the VTB United League.
You’ve scored your 1500th point in the VTB United League today. Do you follow your stats?
I didn’t even know I hit a 1000 points! Well, it’s good.
How important is to you to be one of the main scorers of every team you’re at?
Well, it is important, but honestly it’s better to do what the team needs. On this team we have so many guys that can score 20 points a game. You never know whose night it’s gonna be. I’ve played basketball for a long time, and I can enjoy playing defense too. Making stops is also fun for me.
What can you say about the game against Uralmash?
Good win. It's the first time I was able to beat my past team, so I'm happy. Especially with these circumstances, the coach been gone, and Janko [Pejčić] stepping up. It was a good fight, we came with energy, just looking to build and go forward.
Have you already spoken with the new coach?
Yeah, but very briefly. Just welcome and hello. I hope he will help us get the good result.
What helped Loko make such a run in the 3rd quarter?
Our defense stepped up. We were able to use our speed and... I just think it was our hard defense.
What happened to Loko’s 3-pointers?
We’re just not making them right now. Honestly, it’s just basketball. But we can do other things to help us win the games besides 3-pointers. I think, the long-range shots are gonna come, and when we’ll start making them again, we’ll be even more dangerous.
Today is a very warm day, +15 C. Is it unusual for you to see such a weather in Russia in January?
For sure, and I like it. I just had my mom and my sister here for 2 weeks, and it was pretty cold outside. And since they left it’s warm again. I said they brought the cold weather from home.
