The best athlete of the Krasnodar Territory 2022 during the online voting on the portal “Kuban спорт.RU ” the fans chose the basketball player of Lokomotiv-Kuban, the strongest young player of the VTB United League in the 2021/22 season, Andrey Martyuk.
The traditional award of the award and its symbol — the “Champion’s Shield” — were presented to the winner at the Loko home match by Andrey Vedishchev, President of the Lokomotiv-Kuban PBK, and Maxim Osadnik, Chairman of the KKRO of the Federation of Sports Journalists of Russia.
The award is organized by the Krasnodar Regional Regional branch of the Federation of Sports Journalists of Russia (KKRO FSZHR) with the support of the RNKB Bank. Since 2011, the top ten athletes representing the Krasnodar Territory are first determined by sports journalists, and then the only winner is chosen by fans.
In the final, the confrontation between basketball player Andrei Martyuk and wrestler Alexander Golovin ended in favor of the forward of Lokomotiv-Kuban, who scored 52.2% of the votes. It should be noted that in total over 37,485 votes of respondents were given for all the nominees. This is a record for the entire time of the award. The winner scored 11,274 votes in three stages.
Andrey Martyuk became the first basketball player who managed to win the main sports award of the Krasnodar Territory “Athlete of Kuban”.
According to journalists, the Top 10 Kuban athletes of 2022 included: Anastasia Sorokina (swimming), Boris Bezdolny (athletics), Alexander Golovin (Greco-Roman wrestling), Alexey Orlov (motocross), Mikhail Igolnikov (judo), Andrey Martyuk (basketball), Irma Makhinya (ski jumping from a springboard), Irina Kundius (trampoline jumping), Sergey Khandozhko (mixed martial arts), Fedor Durymanov (sambo).
Olympic champion in judo Arsen Galstyan, Olympic champion in tennis Elena Vesnina, world champion in boxing among professionals Dmitry Pirog, football players of the Russian national team Fedor Smolov and Yuri Gazinsky, world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling Stepan Maryanyan have become laureates of the Kuban Athlete Award in different years.
