Loko vs Uralmash: to overtake & to overrun

To reach the Final Four of Winline Russian Cup, Lokomotiv-Kuban needs to not only defeat Uralmash at home, but win with a difference of at least 14 points.

Disposition

The first game of the quarterfinal series of 2 took place in Yekaterinburg and was won by the hosts – 80:67. Center Octavius Ellis (12 points and 11 rebounds) and point guard Stanley Whittaker (18 points and 10 assists) were the main scorers for Uralmash.

Loko played clearly below its capabilities. Despite of Dmitry Uzinsky, who led his partners like a true captain (17 points and 7 rebounds), Okaro White’s (22 points) excellence, and Vladislav Yemchenko’ impressive statistics of 10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists, the overall team performance was dismal: only 21 of 65 field shots reached the target. Jaylen Barford made just 3 of his 13 attemts. And the free throw statistics look especially sad: only 53% (16/28). The fact that Loko had an obvious advantage in rebounds (45 vs 35) didn’t help. The team simply failed to take advantage of the opportunity to score second chance points. As a result, the difference reached 13 points in favor of the guests in the upcoming match.

Their leaders

Uralmash plays good as a team, with quite experienced players who willingly takes advantage on any mistake or negligence. But still, the combination of center Ellis and point guard Whittaker looks the most dangerous. They played great in the first Cup game, where each scored a double-double, and will undoubtedly lead their partners in the second one.
