Interview

Vladislav Yemchenko: “I hope I’ll have even better games this season”

In the game against Yenisei (101:87), the Loko guard set two personal records at once – in points (21) and in assists (12) per game. Thanks to this, Yemchenko made a double-double for the first time in his career.
– Loko only got back to business at the end of the 3rd quarter. Were you waiting for something?
– I disagree with this statement. Yenisei is a very good team. They lost the previous game at home, so we expected them to come against us with a huge grit. Nevertheless, we tried to follow our game plan, played well on offense in the 1st quarter, but then we started doing wrong on defense, losing rebounds and so on. After the long break, we began to work a little closer with the opposing players. Our goal was not to reduce the margin as quickly as possible. Step by step, we continued to follow the plan, defended here, scored there, finally took the lead and successfully kept the advantage.
– Did Yenisei lose or did you win?
– Fifty-fifty. Somewhere luck helped us a little. At the final minutes, Yenisei missed some good shots, but our defense should not be underestimated in these episodes. In attack, we also played smartly several times, and were already in complete control of the game in the last minutes.
– Can you call this game your best in VTB United league?
– Well, I definitely haven’t done a double-double before. Usually, if you score a lot, you give fewer assists. And vice versa. But today my partners scored from my assists and I myself made several big shots. Also, thanks to coaches who kept trusting in me. So, yes, this is probably my best match of the season. For now. I hope there will be even better games.
