Interview

Vsevolod Ishchenko: “I tried to play calmly and cleverly”

The debut of the 19-year-old graduate of the Lokomotiv Kuban youth system for the main team was quite impressive: 11 points and 8 rebounds. But more important was that Ishchenko looked on the court not like a junior, but like a fully mature and confident basketball player.
What are your emotions about your debut in the main team?
The emotions are very intense. At the beginning of the match this played a cruel joke on me: I really wanted to strangle the leader of the opponents as much as possible from the first seconds, but it turned out that he strangled me – I got two fouls in a minute and immediately sat on the bench. Then I tried to cool down – first of all, in my head – and play more calmly and cleverly. Well, it seems to have worked.
How will you prepare for the next game?
Today we have a day off: we will relax, swim in the pool, have a tasty meal. Then we will probably watch the video of yesterday's game, analyse the mistakes, note the good moments. As far as I know, against Uralmash there will be 14 people in the roster, so more guys will get a chance. I hope that we will win again and show aggressive defense, like yesterday.
