Interview

Andrey Vedishchev: “Watching the game as a coach is completely different”

At the press conference after the game with Yenisei, journalists asked the head coach of Loko a lot of questions, for this was Vedishchev's debut in the VTB United League in his new status.
By the middle of the 2nd quarter, you let all 12 players on the roster play. Can we say that the widest possible rotation will be your team's trademark this season?
I hope so. We, of course, put the result first, but at the same time we want the whole team to play, so that everyone contributes.
What can you say about Mikhail Vedischev's and Vsevolod Ishchenko's debut game?
They were good. Although they didn't show everything they are capable of, but both played with great desire. To avoid mistakes, you need experience playing at this level, where everything is very tough. But overall, the guys did well. I think that both of them can count this match as a success.
It still seemed that Mikhail played more confidently than Vsevolod. What do you think is the reason for this?
I think they both played confidently. Maybe Misha entered the game a little better. Perhaps it was easier for him because we put Seva in the starting five. This is a certain pressure on the 19-years old one.
You now look at basketball from the other side of the court – not from the presidential chair, but from the coach’s bench. Does the game look different?
Of course, absolutely. Totally different perception of the game. Now you have to watch not only the attack, the highlights. You must analyze how the guys defend, who moved wrong, made an error. Noticing every small detail is the most difficult thing in the job so far. I think this comes with experience.
Can we say that you have already experienced all the nuances of the head coach’s profession?
Surely not. I am still a novice with a lot to learn. The job is very difficult: a lot of analysis, a lot of theoretical work, a lots of human factor. As a head coach, I have very much to improve. But I will try my best.
