Loko shows best defense in season beating Astana

In a game of the VTB United League, Lokomotiv Kuban defeated Astana in Kazakhstan – 83:50. The most effective player of Loko was Joe Ragland – 16 points, 7 assists, 2 steals. Brian Qvale almost got double-double – 13 points and 9 rebounds. Mardy Collins scored 12 points and made 4 rebounds.

In the first quarter, Kazakhstan was more confident. They took the lead and managed to hold Loko’s leaders. After 6 minutes, our team scored 9 points and 6 of them were two 3-pointers by Ragland. By the end of the quarter, Lokomotiv stole initiative and won the period – 19:16.

Sasa Obradovic used wide rotation: by the mid of the second quarter all listed players appeared to participate in the game. However, only 6 players managed to score in the first half. The seventh was Pavel Antipov who shot from downtown in final minute of the period – 42:28 in favor of Krasnodar.

Astana attempted to come back in the third quarter and scored 17 points in a row. However, it didn’t work. Their percentage of outside shots was very poor. Lokomotiv attentively guarded Astana’s snipers who shot only 3/22 3P.

In the fourth quarter, Astana managed to score only 5 points, while Krasnodar got 20. Ryan Broekhoff successfully attempted two threes. Baburin also netted the ball from outside. 83:50 – Loko repeated its personal record of the season in the score difference +33.
