Makar Konovalov: “UNICS showed that it’s possible to beat Zenit 3 times in a row”

Having played 18 minutes in Game 2 of the bronze series (61:64, 0-2 in the series), the point guard became the most efficient player on the Lokomotiv Kuban roster (KPI 14, with 12 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals).
What can you say about the game? What was not enough to win?
We started off pretty well compared to the first game, showing good energy on both offense and defense. We missed a few easy baskets and could have led more by halftime. But Zenit came out for the 2nd half with a completely different attitude, and we couldn't match it. They outrebounded us, pressed us defensively, and we couldn't organize our offense properly. It's disappointing to lose in a game like that, of course. A second straight game like that. But we're not going to give up; we'll play our best until the very end and try to win this series.
The game was very low-scoring. Why do you think that happened?
I think both teams tried to play hard. Plus, both of us missed a lot of open shots. It was probably due to fatigue, but those kinds of games happen sometimes.
Today you got more playing time than usual. How does that feel?
I always try to be prepared. Today I managed to score a few times early, which is probably why coaches gave me more time. But when you lose, it doesn't mean anything, so I need to keep working and try to help the team get back into this series at home in Krasnodar.
What instructions did the coach give you personally?
Play aggressively and try to put pressure on defense.
Did you know that in the history of the VTB United League, not a single series for third place has ended with a sweep?
I get it. Of course, we'll play until the end and won't give up. The series is currently 0-2, but it's possible to beat Zenit 3 times in a row, as UNICS showed in the semifinals So we'll try to play at our best game after game and pull this series out of the way.
What would you say to the fans who were in the stands today and cheered for you at their screens?
A big thanks to the fans. They were clearly audible today. We'll play until the end, so come support us, we'll do our best for you.
