Vsevolod Ishchenko: “My childhood dream is starting to come true”

We spoke with the VTB United League's top young player right after it became known that he had been selected by the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA draft.
How are you feeling right now?
I feel like my childhood dream is starting to come true, but I understand that this is only the first step – there is still a lot of work ahead.
Was it difficult to stay awake until 5am watching the draft?
I've dreamed about this all my life, and at moments like these one can't sleep.
Were you anxious when the draft was coming to an end and your name still hadn't been called?
Of course, I was nervous. At one point, I thought I'd never get drafted, but I still had faith. It turned out it was worth it.
Have you received many congratulations already?
I guess. I'm talking to you, and the messages keep coming.
Did you think you'd end up in the Dallas Mavericks?
Well, yes.
What's the plan now?
We'll contact the Mavericks and clarify. Everything will become clear soon. In the meantime, I want to thank everyone. First and foremost, my family and loved ones, the Lokomotiv Kuban club, and especially President Andrei Vladimirovich Vedishchev. The team's coaching staff and everyone else I could name. I am incredibly grateful to every single person I've met along the way. Thank you everybody!
