Ivan is the second son of Pyotr Samoylenko, famous Russian basketball player, European champion of 2007.

Samoylenko Jr. began his professional career with UNICS’s reserve team. In the 2023/24 season, he played six games in the VTB United League for Runa Moscow.

The player began the 2024/25 season with BC Barnaul, where he averaged 20 minutes per game, making 11.0 points, 2.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.5 steals, and 0.4 blocks. Midway through the season, he transferred to Temp-SUMZ and was part of them winning their first-ever Superliga title.

In the summer of 2025, Samoylenko signed a 2-season contract with Lokomotiv Kuban.
