Khimki vs. Lokomotiv Kuvban. The VTB United League Play-Off. Game 2. Preview

On May 26th, Lokomotiv Kuban plays against Khimki on the road in the second play-off game of the VTB United League. Krasnodar was defeated in Game 1. To prolong the basketball season in Krasnodar, Loko needs at least one win in Khimki.

The Take

Loko lost Game 1. This is the fact that opened the play-off series for Lokomotiv’s fans. Considering the new play-off format, this is the worst option ever. However, it’s too early to wear sackcloth and ashes. There will be no easy walk in the series for both teams.

Loko must win at least one game on the road to return the series to Krasnodar and continue fighting for the Final Four. Otherwise, Lokomotiv will end the season in the Moscow Region.

Opponent

Sasa Obradovic didn’t use Mardy Collins against the top scorer of Europe. The captain’s forces were concentrated on the offense. Shved was guarded by Lacey and Ilnitsky. These two players executed their mission for one hundred per cent. Khimki’s leader spent 35:23 minutes on the court and showed his worst field goal stats (28%) in the season.

Loko

Collins did his best in attacking. Mardy was the top scorer (14 points) and top assister (5 rebounds) with the highest PIR (19) in the game among Loko players.

Loko’s centers found themselves in an unusual situation. Elegar and Qvale didn’t take a rebound in the game. However, Frank made three dunks while Brian got 4 field points and 5/5 free throws.

As for rebounds, they were taken primarily by forwards: Ilnitsky – 7, Maciulis – 6, Collins – 6. Moreover, Loko won rebounds with a slight advantage (39/34).
