McLean started his professional career in Europe in the Belgian club of Leuven Bears for which he played in the 2011/2012 season, averaging 9.3 points and 6.8 rebounds in 36 games. For the next two seasons, the forward played for Scafati Italy, Oostende Belgium, and Bonn Germany.
In 2014, McLean made his debut in Euroleague, playing for ALBA Berlin. Under Sasa Obradovic’s management, Jamel played for 25 minutes in every game and averaged 13 points and 5.6 rebounds. As a result of the season, he was awarded MVP of the Baltic League. He spent the next two seasons in Milan.
In the 2015/2017 seasons, the American forward won the Italian League, the Italian Cup twice, and the Super Cup. Playing for Olympia Milan, McLean was awarded MVP of the Euroleague Round 7. During two seasons in Euroleague, he played in 40 games and averaged 9.7 points and 4.2 rebounds.
In 2018, Jamel played for Olympiacos and averaged 8.7 points and 4.7 rebounds. He was named MVP of the Euroleague Round 13 together with Alexei Shved. McLean also participated in the Greek All-Star Game last season.
