In 2004, Dorell Wright was drafted in the 2004 NBA draft by the Miami Heat directly out of high school. Wright played six seasons for the team, averaging 4.7 points and 2.8 rebounds in 218 games. He became the youngest NBA champion with Miami.
In 2010, Wright signed with the Golden State Warriors. He started all his games (143) in the starting five for two seasons. His first year in Golden State was the best in Dorell’s NBA career. In 82 games, he averaged 16.4 points and 5.3 rebounds. He also ended the season with the most three-point shots made in the 2010–11 season with 194, as well as the most three-point field goals attempted with 516.
In July 2012, Wright was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in a three-team trade. In 79 games of the regular championship, he averaged 9.2 points and 3.8 rebounds. A year later, Wright signed with the Portland Trail Blazers. For two seasons in the team, the player averaged 4.7 points and 2.5 rebounds in 123 games. Then, Dorell went to China to play for the Beikong Fly Dragons. He averaged 26.8 points and 4.3 rebounds. In April 2016, he returned to Miami to support the team in play-offs.
At the start of the previous season, Wright signed with Igokea for the 2017–18 season. He averaged 26 points and 4.3 rebounds in 5 games. Later the 32-year-old small forward joined Bamberg and helped it to advance to semifinals of the domestic championship. In Bamberg, Wright averaged 11.6 points and 5.4 rebounds in 27 games of Euroleague.
